The day was March 12th 2023 on the grounds of Khadija Secondary School.  Seven teams from the wards of Mwakirunge, Mkomani, Junda, Bamburi, Mjambere, and Magogoni gathered for a soccer tournament. HFG planned this event to have a pleasant day where the teams could compete and have fun while also celebrating their successes in participating in the Coaching Boys Into Men (CBM) program.

CBM is a program under the USAID Jitegemee project that is been implemented in Mombasa county. Here, the boys are brought together by a common thing, in this case, soccer.  After the training sessions, they are taken through sessions on behavioural change such as how to prevent gender-based violence,  HIV and AIDS awareness and prevention and good moral values.

The tournament attracted 170 boys in all. Representatives from the Mombasa County Government were in attendance. Kennedy Maina, the Director of Children Services in Nyali, Faiza Kajembe, the Director of Children Services in Kisauni, and Rhoda Kasunza, the Subcounty Youth Development Officer, were among them. As Rhoda Kasunza noted,

” I am very impressed by how well our boys are been prepared. We have concentrated so much on girl empowerment that if our daughters are equipped, will the men who will marry them be ready? We have now begun. Excellent values, and you will be a disciplined adults in future.”

They were satisfied with the measures taken to guarantee that the male kid is not left behind while the girl child gets empowerment.

At the end of the tournament, each of the competing teams received a soccer ball. The first two teams received team uniforms, while the victorious team received the CBM soccer trophy.
