Job Title: Business Mentor

Program: USAID Nuru Ya Mtoto DREAMS Project Migori County

Background

The Partnership for a HIV Free Generation (HFG) is a local NGO working closely with local communities, implementing partners, Government of Kenya and public-private partners at county, and national level. The mission of the organization is to inspire and empower Kenyan youth to live healthy and productive lives through evidence informed interventions and partnerships.

HFG is implementing DREAMS under USAID Nuru Ya Mtoto Project funded by USAID Kenya and East Africa, through PATH Kenya in Migori County. Nuru Ya Mtoto aims at increasing the use of quality county-led, county-owned, and county managed health and social services for OVC and Adolescents Girls and Young Women so as to reduce new HIV infections and gender-based violence. The project is being implemented in close collaboration with and in support of county health management teams and the Ministry of Health and other host-country public and private partners, including the departments of children services, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), community-based organizations (CBOs), and public health facilities.

Opening Date: May 1, 2024.                               Closing Date: May 14, 2024.

Location: Migori County.

Job Summary

The overall role of the business Mentor will be to sustainably improve and support AGYW to grow and expand through the provision of business technical assistance and mentorship support.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide the supported AGYW with the ability to make better business decisions and to improve overall strategic business planning ability;
• Improve the entrepreneurs’ abilities to deal with business challenges;
• Improve financial and economic performance to create stronger and more stable business enterprises, thereby enabling the businesses to create wealth for owners;
• Ensure business growth and improvement through increased innovation, new product/ service lines, new cost saving and revenue streams, better marketing strategies and optimal company structures based on the business plans;
• Improved access to external resources/market linkages with potential clients, investors, or partners etc;
• Support in monthly monitoring and filing and quarterly filing of the business monitoring tool;
• Develop summary baseline report for each AGYW detailing the identified gaps/needs and respective action plans;
• Develop monthly Individual mentorship report for individual and group sessions;
• Provide end line report for each client detailing the type of mentorship provided to each client, benefits derived, challenges faced, and to include clear recommendations and action plan for each recommendation;
• Conduct Quarterly business progress monitoring.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or Certificate in a business-related course;
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience offering SMEs, Start-ups, Early-Stage companies, and CBO support specifically targeted at investor readiness;
• The qualified individual should demonstrate knowledge of working with SMEs, Early-stage companies and CBOs in entrepreneurship and ideally should have previous experience working with AGYW or investors looking for opportunities in the space;
• Demonstrate ability to understand the Kenyan SMEs, Start-ups, Early-stage companies and CBO/ Self Help Groups (SHGs) entrepreneurial ecosystem;
• Prior experience in formal business coaching/mentorship or experience working in an SME environment will be an added advantage;
• Adequate level of written and oral communication skills in both English and Kiswahili;
• Priority will be given to mentors from the host counties and Wards where the AGYW are located;
• ET and FCT facilitators trained by the project and are currently supporting in delivery of the EBIs are encouraged to apply.
